Guardianships and Conservatorships Commission to meet Dec. 7 December 5, 2018 The Mississippi Commission on Guardianships and Conservatorships is expected to finalize its recommendations for legislation and court rule changes during a meeting that will begin at 10 a.m. Dec. 7 at the Gartin Justice Building in Jackson. The Commission has spent nearly two years examining Mississippi laws and court rules which are intended to protect children and vulnerable adults and their assets. The Commission’s report and recommendations will address proposed legislation as well as proposed court rule changes. The goal is to improve the protections provided by guardianships and conservatorships. Supreme Court Justice Dawn Beam and Mississippi Judicial College Director Randy Pierce are co-chairs of the Commission. The Supreme Court created the Commission on Guardianships and Conservatorships in April 2017 in the wake of incidents of fraud and abuse of vulnerable people. The Supreme Court charged the Commission to identify gaps and inconsistencies in state laws and to propose statutory and procedural solutions. Justice Beam said, “Experts from all over the state have spent many hours reviewing our statutes and rules.” The recommendations will offer ways to strengthen protections for children and vulnerable adults. #### |
